Review: Prince - Lotusflow3r and MPLSound

I should start by saying I am a devoted Prince fan. There are those who are more obsessed than myself, but I've stuck with him through thick and (sometimes VERY) thin. His concert in Oklahoma City at The Ford Center was the best concert I've ever seen. I just want you to understand that I COULD be biased. ;-) Having said that, his last several (half-dozen?) albums have been, shall we say, "acquired tastes." Sure, it was Prince, and he really can't do total wrong, but most of the songs just dContinue

Don Francisco's "He's Alive"

The gates and doors were barred And all the windows fastened down I spent the night in sleeplessness And rose at every sound Half in hopeless sorrow And half in fear the day Would find the soldiers breakin' through To drag us all away And just before the sunrise I heard something at the wall The gate began to rattle And a voice began to call I hurried to the window Looked down into the street Expecting swords and torches And the sound of soldiers' feet But there was no one there but Mary SoContinue

Upside Down

My head is spinning right now. Two years after committing my life to a cause I believed in, it all came to a crashing halt today. How can someone who seemed so big last week seem so small & weak today? I believed it. I believed it all. I left behind family, friends, possessions to put everything I had into changing the system. I KNEW this one was the real deal. I could trust him. Everything we had been looking for could be found in this man's leadership. We were going to make a differeContinue

"We're Going To Ruin The Lower Classes", by William Hazlett Upson

(from The Saturday Evening Post) Earthworm Tractor Company Earthworm City, Illinois Office of the Sales Manager, October 9, 1928. Mr. Alexander Botts, Marseilles, France. DEAR BOTTS : This will acknowledge your letter of September twenty-seventh, reporting the sale of one ten-horse-power Earthworm tractor to Signor Taddeo Ghini in Florence, Italy. We are, naturally, pleased that you put this over, but we must remind you that one sale every two or three months—which seems to be the rate youContinue

Punishing the Innocent

A FANTASTIC post By dlbuffy September 19, 2008 Punishing The Innocent What the heck?! Free market is supposed to reward some and punish others...that is life. Those that risk the most stand to lose the most. That is logical. This economy is NOT. I bought my house 5 years ago. In the MIDDLE of the alternative mortgage blitz. I read all the literature, I read all the stuff here at the Fool. I bought my house with a plan...204kContinue

The 5 Big Mistakes That Changed My Life & How I Moved Past Them

I have SO been where she was, even though I never did as much as she did; the whole story is worth reading but the list below is edited from: The 5 Big Mistakes That Changed My Life & How I Moved Past Them By Julie Wainwright Co-Founder, SmartNow.com Mistake 1: I allowed others to define me. How I moved on: I took stock of myself and decided that I know myself better than others. Mistake 2: I built my image of myself on two main supportin… Continue

The song that just didn't want to happen:

I'm getting ready to add a listener-created remix of Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On from the soundtrack to the movie Titanic, and came across this fascinating tidbit about the song which the United World Chart ranks as the fourteenth most successful song in music history & the second most successful song released by a solo female musician: FROM WIKIPEDIA Horner had originally composed the song as an instrumental motif that i… Continue

Another Great Internet Moment

I just had one of those amazing internet moments... you know the type: the first time you see Times Square live in your browser, the first time you hear a radio station from Finland, the first time you chat with a long-term buddy who's moved cross-country, the first time you get an e-mail reply from an author, researcher, or celebrity you've admired for years, the first time you realize your researching a topic on the internet is going to turn up multiple times more detail than you could have ev… Continue

Songs To Keep, Songs To Toss

I now have enough songs in rotation that it's time to do spring cleaning and narrow categories down to "best of the best," and at times it is proving very challenging.

Not only am I trying to decide which song I like best, but I'm trying to avoid the broadcaster's trap of, "well, that song tests well usually" or "most people would probably like this song." There are McStations all up and down the dial if you want "general consensus" playlists... BlackLight is supposed to be an artist's… Continue

The Fire In BlackLight Radio West's Backyard

This has been a frightening week at BlackLight Radio, as we've waited to see if studio, workplace and home would all be destroyed by the wildfires ravaging San Diego California.

"Now, wait a minute," some of you are saying to your computer screens, "I thought Gene lived in Tulsa Oklahoma, not San Diego... I though that's where their studios were located."

Well, you are right: I live in an area of Oklahoma called Green Country, and we are 1,461 and one half miles from "America's… Continue

Welcome To The Community

LoudCity has a little bit of a community set up on their page for us, I've had the BlackList, for a while I had The BlackBoard (until spammers crippled it), but nowhere did I have one-stop shopping for the listeners.

With the addition of BlackLight Community, we can do it all in one space: photos, videos, mp3s, discussions, and on and on.

The coolest thing to me is, it's free and so far there don't seem to be any ads. I'm not quite sure how Ning is paying the bills on this... a… Continue
